With their children grown and a new chapter ahead, these homeowners aimed to transform their compact yard into a functional and fun retreat. Essentially, a space designed for gatherings, unwinding, and entertaining rather than swing sets and soccer games.
But working within a narrow 25-foot-wide lot meant that every detail had to be intentional. The primary challenge was to create an open, inviting atmosphere without compromising privacy or aesthetics. Through care and craftsmanship, we turned this small space into a sophisticated oasis that feels larger than life.

Outdoor entertaining often brings to mind sprawling patios and wide-open spaces. However, the goal for this project was to capture a cozy sense of comfort and combine it with a sense of open-air freedom within a more compact setting.
The homeowners envisioned a space that flowed effortlessly—a covered pergola that provided shelter from sun and rain, a cozy lounge with a fireplace for evening relaxation, and a hot tub to soak in the ambiance at the end of a long day.
Beyond functionality, they wanted a design that felt like a true elevation of their current space. They desired a space that would transform their backyard into a true extension of their home, where they could host friends or simply enjoy a quiet morning coffee in style.
Balancing Style, Privacy, and Flow
Creating an open and welcoming retreat in a tight layout required strategic planning and adaptive design decisions. Major considerations included:

Many of these design elements evolved over time to maintain unobstructed sight lines within the space, providing an expansive feeling without compromising privacy.
